UK to open world’s first treatment center for women’s gambling addiction

The world’s first gambling addiction treatment center for women will open in the Midlands in 2021. The decision comes amid new research showing a significant increase in the number of women suffering from gambling addiction.
According to the Gordon Moody Association, female gambling victims need more sophisticated treatment than their male counterparts. According to preliminary information, the new center will provide such support in a special environment developed by scientists. Every year 24 women will be able to undergo treatment here. It is worth noting that this initiative has received major funding thanks to the support of the mobile casino company InTouch Games Limited.
“Gambling is a hidden addiction, and even more hidden in it is the history of female gamblers who are influenced by others,” said Gordon Moody CEO Matthew Hickey.
He also added: “There is an absolute need to change that. COVID-19 has had a significant impact on the growth of gambling addicts. This is a real crisis that needs to be addressed with more expertise and resources.”
It is important to add that in 2019, Gordon Moody Association analysts recorded an increase of more than 100,000 women using Gambling Therapy’s website. Last year, GambleAware, GamCare and Gambling Therapy reported 30% of their helpline calls specifically from the female population. 59% of them asked for help for their loved ones, and 41% needed treatment themselves.
Recall that Estonia will launch a state program to combat problem gambling.
