Russia may have a single regulator for the gambling sector

Deputies from the United Russia party have developed and proposed a bill to create a single supervisory body for online gambling. The corresponding document has already been submitted to the State Duma.

According to the initiative, the “Single Regulator of Gambling” will carry out online monitoring of illegal organizations in the gambling sector, respond to such violations in a timely manner and monitor compliance with current gambling laws.

In addition, the agency will be tasked to participate directly in the development and improvement of the regulatory framework governing the activities of operators of gambling entertainment.

The initiative also contains a clause that proposes to create a separate compensation fund for participants of gambling games. It will be formed from the operators’ deductions and the Ministry of Finance will provide guarantees of payments.
