Bulgarian government plans to close more than 600 casinos

The head of the Budget Committee, Menda Stoyanova, unexpectedly supported the bill to restrict gambling in the country. She gave a comment on the decision to Flagman: “This is a consistent move by Valery Simeonov to restrict gambling in order to prevent gambling addiction among young people. I think that we should even use the experience of those countries that have already introduced similar restrictions.”
Nevertheless, the chairman of the budget committee confirmed that the bill will lead to “certain losses” in the budget of the country. The size of the losses should be clarified by an expert group in the near future.
The new bill provides that land-based casinos can operate:
All other establishments must close no later than December 31, 2025. Experts estimate that more than 600 gambling establishments will be closed and 30,000 people will lose their jobs.
There are quarterly taxes in Bulgaria. The organizers pay 255 euros to the treasury for each slot machine and 11,200 euros for a gaming table. Since 2010 the gambling establishments have added more than 50 million Euros to Bulgaria’s budget annually.
